Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS)

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service has over 2,600 community-based volunteers who are trained to provide immediate life-saving treatment at certain emergencies, before the arrival of an emergency vehicle. There are more than 250 community first responder schemes across Yorkshire and each has vital life-saving equipment, including a defibrillator.

Mainly aimed at medical students in their first two years to provide basic experience in pre-hospital setting. Upon successful selection, students will be trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service on how to use a defibrillator, oxygen and various emergency life support skills. Qualified CFRs will be on call in pairs and respond to 999 calls as activated by the ambulance control. The scheme currently operates in both Hull and York.
