The aim of Hull York Medical Students Community First Responders (CFRs) are to attend life-threatening medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, and provide immediate resuscitation to the patient, until the arrival of ambulance crew.
Medical students, mainly for those who are in their first two years of medical study, may apply to join the HYMS PCP CFR Scheme. Upon successful selection, students will be trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Services on how to use an AED, Oxygen and various Emergency Life Support skills. Qualified CFRs will be on call in pairs and respond to 999 calls as activated by the ambulance control. The scheme currently operates in both Hull and York.
